Ruins of St. Peter's Church

St. Peter’s church in Alresford, Essex was built by Anfred de Staunton around 1300. It is situated about a mile away from the Alresford town. Unfortunately the church was destroyed by a fire in 1971 and was beyond repair. The exact cause of the fire remains unknown. As the church was given Grad II listed status in 1966 the ruins still remain, a church to replace it was built in Alresford town a few years later.

Reculver Towers & Roman Fort

The haunted Reculver Towers of the mediaeval church built on a former Roman fort are a well-known landmark on the North Kent coast. It is also a location that harbours some unusual hauntings. Reculver was an important Roman fort by the name of Regulbium and controlled the northern entrance to the Wantsum Channel separating the Isle of Thanet from mainland England.

Thurnham Castle

Thurnham Castle stands on the site of Saxon fortress, long known as Godard's Castle, which may in itself been preceded by a Roman watchtower. In early Norman times the castle formed part of Bishop Odo's estates, half-brother of King William I, Earl of Normandy and victor of the Battle of Hastings.
